A pilot should be developed to a highly skilled and well-knowledgeable experienced personal to ensure the safety of the vessel and port is maintained at all times while the job is done successfully by attending the following courses respectively:

• Advanced Stimulator;
• Sea Port & Port Operations;
• Bridge Communication Management;
• Pilot’s Liabilities, Remedies & Responsibilities etc;
• International Shipping & Port Security Code and
• Any courses prior to SBU Marine Management’s requirement

The pilot should expose and update himself with various knowledge and experiences with regard to the new technology especially the vessel which is fully equipped with the advanced technologies etc by participating in :
• Out-field job experience in other ports;
• Local / Outboard courses conducted by IKMAL, IMPA or any associations or bodies in related to the job scope.

In order to have a greater self-awareness and improve his soft skills through communication training as well as to endow himself towards his career development within SBU-Marine, the pilot should involve in:
• Port Operation Management;
• Stress Management;
• Cost Benefit Analysis;
• Crew Resources Management;
• Team Building;
• Communications Skill;
• Paradigm and
Any courses, seminars or conferences prior to SBU – Marine management’s requirement.

These can furnish an excellent interpersonal, communication skills, dynamic, proactive, adaptable and result-oriented pilot to accelerate his career progression towards the following SBU-Marine Career Structure:

- General Manager (Marine)
- Head, Marin Operations,
- Head, Ferry Services and
- Head, Hydrographic.
